Blackburn with Darwen Music Hub believe that access to a programme of quality singing and vocal work should be an integral part of child's music education.
Blackburn with Darwen Music Hub work closely with partner organisations to deliver a singing strategy which supports children and young people to access opportunities in schools and in a wide range of settings across the local area. We encourage schools to signpost pupils to organisations and events where they can participate in singing and vocal work.
All schools take part in our WCET vocal programme which delivers 10 weeks of whole class vocal work to year 4. This can either take place as one of the WCET terms in place of instrumental tuition, or schools can book a 10 week block in addition to a full year of instrumental ensemble work.
BDMusic Hub run two large scale annual singing events which are open to all schools: Big Sing and Mini Sing.
Big Sing is for all junior age children. All participating schools learn the same four songs with school teaching staff, and then join together to perform these together in a large event at King George’s Hall in March along with schools from across the borough.
Mini Sing works on the same format but for infant children with a performance event in May/June each year.
Many of our schools are also involved with singing projects run by our partners, More Music and Blackburn Cathedral. They can also progress to develop their choral work with one of the Cathedral’s programmes.
There are a number of vocal projects and events taking place in Blackburn and Darwen each year.
