Blackburn with Darwen Music Hub is committed to working with providers of early years education.
We have just completed a two year project funded by the National Foundation of Youth Music to develop our work with young children, their families and the practitioners and teachers who are working with them across different settings.
This has enabled us to develop resources, put together a song pack and CD of material for use in childrens centres and nurseries and provide regular training sessions to support non-music specialists working in the Early Years.
Many of our singing activities and games link to the wider EYFS curriculum and support children's development across wider areas of early learning.

The role of parental engagement with children has a significant impact on a child's learning in the early years and BwD Music Hub are committed to support parents to be involved in their child's learning.
The Music Box project developed 'Music Bags' with different instruments and activities which are sent home with families to continue with music, songs and games that have been a focus of work in nurseries. These promote parent/child interaction and also engage younger children with music as a normal activity.

We also run sessions with Children's Centre outreach teams, supporting their work with parents and delivering music as part of their weekly sessions. Please get in touch if you would like to find out more about the 'Music Bag' initiative.

  • We run weekly music sessions during term time for parents to attend with their children at The Bureau, Centre for the Arts.

Our regular Music Box training/networking sessions take place at Shadsworth Children's Centre from 4.30pm-6.30pm. These are promoted widely through our own network, schools, children's centres, BwD PVI support team.
We include ongoing support with new ideas for singing resources and also discuss specific issues, for example using musical instruments, observing musical developments, including musical observations in learning journeys, and most recently are looking at the Sounds of Intent Early Years framework.

We have a Music Box newsletter which supports these sessions and connects all those with an interest in this area. If you do not receive this and would like to join our mailing list please.
